Internships Vacancy-Five (5) Positions

The State Department of Environment is implementing the Low Emission and Climate Resilient Development project; which has the goal of supporting Kenya’s efforts to pursue long-term transformative economic growth and accelerate sustainable climate resilient growth of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The project has been running since October 2014, and expected to end in September 2018.

The Project management Unit is made up of the National Project Manager, Project Administrator, three (3) Project Officers and three United Nation Volunteers (UNVs). Interns engaged by this State Department have been providing supportive services in the project towards implementation of programmatic and administrative activities.

The State Department of Environment, therefore, wishes to recruit qualified and competent persons, to serve as Project Interns, for a period of one (1) year within the Project Management Unit.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. a) Administration

 The interns will provide assistance in general project implementation and management and day-to-day liaison with counterparts in collaboration with the Project Administrator and the Project Officers.

 In collaboration with Project Administrator provide support in managing the office functions and overseeing its smooth operations.

 Provide administrative assistance to the National Climate Change Resource Centre that the Director Climate Change might deem necessary for support by the project.

  1. b) Research

 Support project staff in undertaking research, compiling, analyzing and presenting the information as required. Assist in data collection and management of databases guided by the Project officers.

 Provide research assistance to the Climate Change Directorate

  1. c) Project Management

Engage with Project Staff on implementation of project activities and contribute in writing of reports.

  1. d) Logistics

 Actively support management of workshops, field trips and exhibitions (travel arrangements, booking venues, etc).

 Ensure that project information is filed as per the system in place and or/ shared with the relevant staff/partners

  1. e) Perform other duties as determined by the National Project Manager.

Requirements and qualifications

  1. Have Bachelor’s degree in environmental/social sciences, Information Technology, Project Management or any other field of study relevant to the project’s focus.
  2. The applicants who have worked as casuals in the project will have an added advantage.

iii. The applicants should demonstrate intention to register or already registered for masters studies (evening or weekend classes). Those who have registered will have an added advantage
